What is intuition?
Intuition is the ability to know, understand and perceive immediately, without intervention of reason or senses. It is a high function of the human intellect that transcends even time and space and is directly related to the value of Truth.
The information that the human being captures through intuition is infallible and precise, it does not lead to doubt or confusion because it is the revelation of what "is" without conceptualization or any data that comes through the gross senses.
Sathya Sai explains in his book Jñana Vāhini P. 51-52: "You can see without the eyes, hear without the ears, speak without the tongue, smell without the smell, touch without the touch, walk without the feet, you can even have experience without the mind ... Man reads through the eye associated with his mind and therefore fails, but the wise has the divine eye, and he can hear and see without the help of the senses ..."
In an article, published in the magazine Sabiduría Sai, Vol. VIII, No. 3, P. 4-7, issued by the Sathya Sai Organization of Mexico, we read: “Intuitive ability is a supranormal capacity of the human being. Intuition is the result of flashes of Consciousness in the conscious. Intuitive abilities elevate the state of existence from the conscious state to the state of consciousness.”
Alice A. Bailey in her book From Intellect to Intuition says: "What is that mysterious thing called intuition? It is interesting to note that this term has been totally ignored in some psychology books, and frequently ignored by the greatest men in this field. Intuition has not been recognized. We can define it as a direct grasp of truth, apart from the faculty of reasoning or any other process of the intellect. It is the emergence in the consciousness of some truth or beauty never felt. It does not come from subconsciousness or accumulated racial or individual memory, but descends directly to the mind from the super-consciousness or omniscient Soul. It is immediately recognized as infallible truth, and raises no doubt."
Intuition and spirituality
Intuition is the natural consequence of a deep connection with our higher Self, with our true nature. It also responds to the ability of going within instead of going outside, to connect with our inner silence and not with the noisy world that surrounds us. Briefly, all the characteristics related to intuition describe different aspects of our spiritual being. This is why Sathya Sai says:
“The spiritual preceptor alone can open the inner eye and cleanse the inner instrument of intuition. He induces you to question yourself: Am I this body or is this body only a vehicle which I am using?, and discover the answer: I am not this body. Then the investigation starts to delve into the reality of the I: Who am I then? and the answer reveals itself in the purified consciousness, "Soham" (I am He); I am a spark of that Glory; I am Divine.”
Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 11, Ch. 44, July 26, 1972
“Man embarks on the journey to Bliss that the Cosmic Consciousness can offer as one’s own precious prerogative. This journey does not lead outward; it has to be inward, towards Reality itself. The musk deer run frantically in circles, searching for the source of the fragrance that has fascinated them. When they are finally too exhausted to continue, they discover that the source has been inside them all along!”

How to develop intuition and overcome the obstacles to reach it
The realm of Self-realization, the super-consciousness, the inner voice, are all intimately related with our capacity of being connected with our intuition. In order to reach and be established in the state of intuition, we need to control our senses, our mind and the habit of discussing and controverting ideas.
In his discourse of 12.04.1959, Sathya Sai explains this process and the way we can overcome them:
“Reason enjoys discussion and controversy; once man gives in to the temptation of dialectics, it will take him a long time to escape its chains and erase it from his mind so that he can enjoy the happiness that comes from its cancellation. At all times he must be aware of the limitations of reason. The state of mind full of questions and doubts must give way to the serene state of mind without questions, and the mind full of thoughts must do the same with the thoughtless mind. Reason can help man only in a certain part of the path to God; the rest is illuminated by intuition.
His feelings and emotions distort even the processes of his thoughts and reason becomes an indomitable bull. Very often, selfishness tends to encourage and justify follies, for a person is led down the wrong path for his own reason if that is the path he likes. You often come to the conclusion you want to reach. Unless you are very careful to examine, at the same time as it is occurring, the process of reasoning itself, there is the danger that you are merely following the path that you have set yourself. Reason can be tamed only with discipline, with the systematic application of compassion, equanimity, patience, conformity, etc. Encourage the mind to walk quietly through short stretches of road at the beginning and then, once you are more confident of its docility, you can take it away from the path of the six-fold temptations: sensuality, anger, greed, deceit, pride and jealousy.
Do not engage in the cultivation of desires. That is an endless process of sowing and harvesting; they will never attain contentment; satisfied, one desire will encourage the pursuit of another. Thus, be alert. All the paths leading to the kingdom of the senses are tortuous and blind; only the path leading to God is right. Cultivate the path of righteousness in everything. This will reveal the Soul. It is the inner blissfulness that matters, not the outer, the sensory, the objective, the mundane. If the inner balance is not disturbed by the external ups and downs, that is the real success.
Like a copper container that must be rubbed with tamarind and washed and dried so that it can shine like new, the mind must also always be treated with remembrance of the sacred name of God, doing all things well, and good behavior and contemplation of the well-being of all.
The sun is up there in the sky; the passing cloud is the one that hides it from your sight. The sensory world is the cloud that hides the Divine Self that shines eternally in the firmament of your heart. The same mind that gathers the clouds can also scatter them in an instant; for it is like the wind that gathers them from all corners and darkens the sky; and an instant after changing direction, sends them all in a whirlpool to the place from which they came. Prepare the mind to disperse the clouds, not to gather them. Each aspirant has to do this by following a systematic discipline. In one leap they cannot reach the top; it is an arduous task to deny the evidence of the senses; one must master the tendencies that have developed during hundreds of births. The world is an illusion and everything is the Divine Consciousness, but only for the one who has reached the last goal; in order to reach this state of total knowledge one must wait patiently, longing and preparing..
I advise you to develop lasting happiness, not through these difficult and even doubtful means, but through the cultivation of love that begins at home and in the family and extends to all creatures. Lay down the sharp weapon that seeks to analyze and collapse the opponent’s arguments and adopt the sweet love that sheds joy and conquers recalcitrant hearts.”
Intuition lies within us…
Control your senses and your mind
Silence your thoughts, emotions calm
Search the Source, you don’t need force
Intuition lies within us…
Everything is revealed without judgment or noise
Present everywhere, you will find yourself at last
Intuition lies within us…
No divisions, nor real differences
All is but Consciousness, we are One!
